UPDATE as of December, 2008: NWLL has pleaded its case to the IMD at recent quarterly meetings and even filed a lawsuit for IMD mismanagement. Though we have not yet received a formal letter of acceptance, Livingston Field will likely become a City of Chicago park. Without the tremendous support from Mayor Daley, his Department of Planning and Development, and his Chicago Park District, along with Aldermen Dan Solis (25th), Bob Fioretti (2nd), Walter Burnett (27th), and Ed Smith (28th), this agreement would have been neglected! IMD still has signs posted on two fences (shown below) since Spring, 2007 stating their intention to build on the site and destroy our field of dreams and a treasured community asset and green space. On July 19, 2007, the City Council and Mayor Daley unanimously passed a resolution urging the IMD to keep Livingston Park a baseball field. The resolution was sponsored by Ald. Burnett, Ald. Fioretti, and Ald. Solis, and we deeply thank them for their official support! NWLL strongly condemns IMD's takeover of Livingston Field. Here are some summer 2007 articles:

Welcome to the Near West Little League,
serving Chicago's Near West and West Side!
(Last site update: 12/1/08)
Dateline 8/11: NWLL again participated in the Park District City Tournaments for 8-10 and 11-12 boys. Like last year, NWLL finished 2nd only to neighboring Harrison Park in Pilsen.

Mayor Daley throws out the first pitch at Opening Day, as he has every year! Mayor Daley recognizes our community organization + local government partnership and how elected officials have a duty to honor these partnerships. We deeply thank him for his kind support!
NWLL thanks a new organizational donor this year Pitch In for Baseball for their major gift of mitts, batts, and balls to support all divisions. |
NWLL also thanks a new ministry from Christian Sports International, who were represented by former Major League Players Tom McGough, Mike Hutchison, Dave Rettig, and Brad Root at both an evening clinic and the Opening Day ceremony. |
|
Secretary of State Jesse White and his famous tumblers have generously come to Opening Day every year! Secretary White always takes the opportunity to encourage our players with a message of hope, responsibility, and health. |
